We have diverse gifts according to the grace that is given to us (Romans 12:6A)

We express our gratitude for God’s abundant grace by cultivating a generous life. Our gifts support the ministry of the church in our community, our nation, and around the world: caring for survivors of violence and natural disaster, assisting vulnerable communities, fighting diseases like malaria, and equipping the next generation to lead the church and society. By our gifts of money and time, we share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Giving Options

Here are several ways you can give to SJU's ministries:

Online: To have your gift automatically withdrawn from your bank account or charged to your credit/debit card, click on the Donate Now link. You can make a one-time donation or a recurring gift. Choosing the recurring gift option allows you to ensure that your gifts are received by the church regularly, even when you are out of town or otherwise not able to attend the Sunday service. If you choose to donate on-line, you will receive a confirming e-mail message from "Presbyterian Mission Exchange".

Check: Make your check payable to “St. John United” and write the purpose of the gift (i.e.; Weekly Offering, One Great Hour of Sharing, etc.) in the note field. Drop it in the offering plate on Sunday or mail it to:
    St. John United
    Wilde Lake Interfaith Center
    10431 Twin Rivers Road
    Columbia, MD 21044

Cash: Place your cash gift into the plate during the worship service. If your gift is for a special collection, please put it in an envelope labeled with your name and the collection you are giving towards. If you don't have an envelope, you can get one from the ushers.

Appreciated Securities: This option is an opportunity to receive a tax deduction for appreciated securities. Our unique arrangement with the Mid-Atlantic Foundation offers us the opportunity to transfer securities at no cost to you or the Church. Gifts of stock that you have held for more than one year can be eligible for a charitable deduction, and avoid any tax on any appreciated value. Please contact John Worley to learn how to accomplish this transaction.

Gift of Required Minimum Distribution (RMD): For those who will reach 70 ½ years, a gift of all or a portion of the RMD can avoid tax liability on any amount donated

Advanced Pledges: A year-end option to consider is making an advanced pledge.

Share Your Time, Enthusiasm, and Skills

SJU activities and missions are successful because people volunteer. Here are some options for you to consider.

  • Join the Altar Guild. Help prepare Room 4 for our worship each Sunday after the Spanish Mass is over. The time commitment is small and the results are often beautiful. Contact Judy Brown* or Andrea Barnes*.

  • Help serve Communion. We need four persons on the first Sunday each month. This is a meaningful way to be part of an important function of our worship. Contact Ann Worley*.

  • Sing! Join our choir. We are proud of it! Contact Ingrid Sampson* for details.

  • Usher! Distribute hymnals and bulletins at the Sunday service once a month or during special services. Contact Albert Holm* or speak to any of the ushers.

  • Be a librarian's assistant. On Sunday mornings, help people find and check out materials from Columbia's Interfaith Library. Contact Phyllis Skillman* for more information.

  • Look at the ministries we support on the Serving the World page, and choose where you can volunteer your time and skills. Or contact our Mission Committee members to suggest a new activity to bring the love of Christ to those who need it.

  • Bring your vision of how to make worship exciting and welcoming to the Sunday Worship Experience Team. Contact Trena Perez Powell*.
